After coming in second place in the Miss Asia beauty pageant, Veronica Yip became a popular singer in Hong Kong and followed the career path of many Cantopop singers by transitioning into acting. Although she was more acclaimed for her singing than her acting, Yip gave several noteworthy performances in successful films, such as her role as the neglected wife in Hong meigui, bai meigui (1994). During a concert in Atlantic City in December 1995, she was introduced to a New York supermarket magnate. They were married the following autumn, and Yip retired from her career to focus on raising a family.
