Kate Elizabeth Winslet is an English actress and occasional singer who has achieved great success in her career. She was born on 5 October 1975 and is the youngest person to have been nominated for six Academy Awards, winning the Best Actress award for The Reader (2008). Winslet has been praised for her work in both dramatic and comedic films, ranging from major Hollywood productions to independent films. She has won awards from the Screen Actors Guild, British Academy of Film and Television Arts, and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, and has been nominated for an Emmy Award for television acting.<br/><br/> Raised in Berkshire, Winslet studied drama from a young age and began her career in British television in 1991.
