Hilary Ann Swank is an American actress and film producer who has been in the film industry since 1992. She began her career with a small part in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and then a major part in The Next Karate Kid, playing Julie Pierce, the first female protégé of sensei Mr. Miyagi. Swank has won two Academy Awards for Best Actress, first for her role as Brandon Teena, a transman in Boys Don't Cry, and then for her role as Maggie Fitzgerald, a struggling waitress-turned-boxer in Million Dollar Baby. Since 2003, Swank has been an executive producer, co-producing and starring in Conviction. She was born on July 30, 1974.
