Glenda May Jackson is an English actress and politician who has achieved the "triple crown of acting" by winning two Academy Awards for Best Actress, two Primetime Emmy Awards, and a Tony Award. She began her acting career in the late 1950s and was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company from 1964 to 1968. Jackson won her Academy Awards for her performances in Women in Love (1970) and A Touch of Class (1973), and her Primetime Emmy Awards for her performances in the film Sunday Bloody Sunday and the BBC television serial Elizabeth R (both 1971). In 2018, she won a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for her performance in a revival of Edward Albee's Three Tall Women.<br/><br/> Jackson also had a career in politics, beginning in 1992 when she was elected as the Labour Party MP for Hampstead and Highgate. She served as a junior transport minister from 1997 to 1999, and later became critical of Tony Blair. After constituency-boundary changes, she represented Hampstead and Kilburn from 2010 to 2015, when she announced her retirement from politics. At the 2010 general election, her majority of 42 votes was one of the closest results of the entire election.
